About The Clips: Large operating landfill in Tijuana, Mexico. In some ways like any landfill, with modern municipal garbage trucks, dump trucks, and small pickups arriving and emptying loads of garbage and refuse. Mountains of trash being moved and compacted by very large bulldozers. The other aspect of this footage is its depiction of landfills in poor and underdeveloped areas. Scores to hundreds of impoverished scavengers with bags, boxes and old pickups are shown picking through the garbage for salvageable cardboard, metals, and other items of value. Scavengers hurry to arriving trucks anxious not to miss out on the best contents of a fresh load. More than half this group shot with tripod from above and side of landfill. Lots of zooms and pans capture the teeming activity. Some clips shot hand held from within the landfill itself. Very close up of churning bulldozers, hundreds of swooping gulls, and scavengers. Gritty. The viewer can almost smell the garbage.
Comments On Clip Subjects: These images are archetypes of waste. Some will work as generic landfill footage. At the same time, few images capture the desperation of the poor or the importance of sustainable development better that the impoverished picking through garbage.
